NYPD Officer Shemalisca Vasquez has filed a $30 million sexual harassment suit alleging that her supervisor exposed himself to her while on duty and texted photos of his genitals.
She alleges that Lt. Ruben Caban flashed her in a room at the Elder Ave. station where they were supposed to be on the lookout for fare-beaters, according to the complaint filed in Bronx Supreme Court. The complaint states that Vasquez responded to his action by stating “Put that thing away.”
After a criminal investigation, no criminal charges were filed against the Lieutenant.
The Plaintiff’s civil lawyer says “She was subjected to a hostile work environment and looks forward to her day in court.” The officer has now filed a civil suit which alleges that Caban repeatedly asked Vasquez for sex in exchange for preferred assignments and signing her requests for days off. Vasquez also has explicit text messages which were sent to her by Caban.
No matter the field of work, sexual harassment can occur and you should seek the legal advice of an experienced lawyer to help you fight for your rights.
