The streets of New York are filled with plenty of hazards, but some women in the City have endured more than just uneven sidewalks and panhandlers. Fed up with the constant harassment of catcalls and come-ons from strangers, a group of women have come forward to stand up to verbal harassment directed at them.
In a meeting with the New York City counsel, a group of women has requested the creation of harassment free zones, similar to how areas around schools are considered “Drug Free” zones. These zones would be safe havens from the constant verbal, and often sexual harassment women and some men have dealt with in the city.
